Of course it’s not just Dublin that celebrates on St Patricks Day, in every town and village events will be held for our Patron Saint and Kilkenny has a fantastic programme planned. All throughout the day there will be live entertainment at McDonagh Junction beginning with traditional music from the Whiskey Kings followed by a host of other bands and dance groups. The parade starts at 2pm and our All Ireland Hurling Champions will lead the procession with 40 other clubs from across the country, we’re also looking forward to seeing what floats, dance troops, bands and other brilliant performers will be taking part on the day.

St Patricks Festival Dublin

Nowhere celebrates St Patrick’s like Dublin. Our recommendations for the ultimate 2012 St Patricks Festival weekend would be:

Arrive early at the Aspect Hotel Dublin Park West. It’ll be a busy weekend so we can’t guarantee your rooms will be ready but you can leave the car and store your luggage before heading into town.

Catch the Luas directly to the IFSC for the Irish Craft Beer Festival. As well as a celebration of the finest brews in the country there will be live music, fabulous food stalls and chance to learn about Brewing in the Time of St Patrick!

Work off lunch by joining the Dublin Walking Tour to uncover the historic sights and fascinating stories of the Saints life and legacy. The tours start opposite Trinity College at 2:30pm and ends at the Cathedrals so it’s a nice gentle stroll downhill to the Quays for the 79A bus that brings you back to the hotel.

Ruebens Restaurant serves a fantastic menu and we’d recommend an early dinner in the hotel then getting tickets to the Father Ted Weekend. Held at the Laughter Lounge on Eden Quay, the show features 2 of the original characters, a Lovely Girls Completion and refreshments including Mrs Doyles Craggy Island Iced Tea (have a glass, go on, go on go on…)

Dublin's St Patrick's Day Festivla Parade

St Patrick’s Day in Dublin

Up bright an early Saturday morning to get a good spot for the parade. The St Patricks Parade starts on Parnell Square and everyone heads to O’Connnell and Westmoreland Streets, it’s a great atmosphere but can be hard to get a good view so I think Dame Street is much better. Afterwards everyone heads to the pubs for a pint or two. With over 1,000 in the city you can’t really go wrong!

On Sunday morning breakfast is served till a leisurely 11am, perfect after a night of celebrations. Alternatively how about a 5km Road Race? Starting at noon outside the Mansion House, run through Georgian Dublin in support of Crumlin Childrens Hospital.

Whatever you plan for you St Patricks weekend we hope you have a fantastic time.

Halloween Events in Dublin

If there is anything us Irish are good at, it is celebrating Halloween to the fullest extent and making sure to scare the living wits out of each other  as the occasion calls for. Halloween has for a long time and will continue to be a memorable date on the Irish calendar as one of the, if not the greatest horror novels in the world was written by an Irish man of Dublin descent. Bram Stoker was the critically acclaimed author behind “Dracula”, which apart from the Bible is the bestselling book in the world! So to pay respect to all the Frankenstein’s, Vampires, and Zombies, Aspect Hotel Parkwest have done a bit of researching into everything our visitors can get up to this Halloween.

Firstly we have the “Ghastly Glasnevin Exhibition” This is a history tour of all the horrific and gruesome tales of death and burial in Dublin during the 19th century. If you’re interested in tales of grave robbers, rituals and burial customs and there practical reason for being used then this is the horror tour for you!

We have also got a Halloween family fun day for you and the family. The day consists of seasonal fun and a wild trail! Later on in the evening there will be a live Ceili and also a scarecrow building activity to par take in where you can build a scarecrow or be the scarecrow!
